Me and My Family

  • Me and the hub, we have 2 crazy kids, 2 even crazier dogs, and an adopted cat we call boo! (Cats really don't answer to their names anyway, right?) We love traveling together, music of all genres, the theater, and hanging with friends. We're on this journey called "life" together, and all I can say is "You'd better put your seatbelt on!" We learn together, laugh together, cry together, and, yes, even eat sushi together. We live one wild ride, and albeit crazy, we're doing it together!

Virtue of the Month!

Knowledge: discovering something new so you can be better at whatever you do ~

School is well underway and we have settled into a routine. With 15 minutes of practice each day, Caleb's reading is coming along well. And things are going much smoother. I guess it was me that really had to get settled back down and into a routine of sorts.

Classical Conversations has been going on for 4 weeks now. We lost a few friends from last year and gained a few more new ones this year. There's actually several families from our area that have joined and their children are in class with mine. They've become big "buds" already. And they are all playing soccer together. It's going to be a fun year! We are in Cycle 3 this year and studying American History, and all about the body (I'll show you our bodies later on in the year).

Laci is learning second position on the violin this year, and is catching on fast. She took second place in her division at the prestigous Galax Fiddlers Convention this year. Her dad backed her on the guitar and they were both estatic, to say the least. It's both fun and rewarding to challenge yourself in your endeavors, but as Laci likes to say, "A ribbon means nothing, my true reward awaits me in heaven." She truly gets it!

Both Laci and Caleb are playing on the same soccer team together and are having a blast. Caleb is truly counting down the days, though, when he is old enough to play football. Hmmm. I thought maybe that would be a passing thought, but he's been talking about it for 2 years now. We were in a sporting goods store the other night and all he wanted to do was try on all the football garb.

Fall season is coming around and you know what that means in the Carolinas, lots of fall festivals! We've already been to one at a church here in our area. It was quite LARGE. Long lines for all the activities, and free food! What better way to spend a Saturday with a friend or two. They had a tent there where they were telling children the Jesus story. You know the one, with the colored bracelet and the blank booklet with all the colors of the bracelet. "Red" means the sacrifice of Jesus' blood, "black" means sin, et cetera. What a nice outreach! The lady telling the story was so sweet. There sat Caleb, Laci, and one of their friends from the swim team this summer who went to the festival with us. The lady said, "This is black, it means sin. Do you children know what sin is?" (Are you kidding, they practice it daily.) Anyway, Caleb piped up and said, "Sin is any lack of conformity to or transgression of the law of God."

I thought the lady was going to fall out of her chair. She didn't quite know what to say, but was impressed nonetheless. Way to go, Caleb, on those catechisms! A prime example of God hiding his Word in their hearts. As a matter of fact, these kids knew all the right answers, even their sweet friend that was with them. (Now, let's see you put them into practice, children!!!)

Last year our church started a new Sunday school program where the children memorize the children's shorter catechisms and their memory verse to go along with it, by sight, songs, and games. I love it, it's just the way we learn at CC.

Thank you God for new friends that love you, and who are walking this homeschool journey with us this year.

Thank you for a teaching church and a teaching earthly father who instills God's Word in our hearts, and into the hearts of our children, so that we may fulfill God's command to go out into the world and tell others about Jesus, what he has done and is doing.

Thank you for the awesome fall weather we've been having lately. I look forward to the beautiful fall changing of the leaves coming soon! It's truly one of my favorite seasons!

Amen!
