North Carolina was home to Daniel Boone as a young boy, before eventually settling down in Kentucky. As a matter of fact, his parents are buried in a cemetary in the next town over.
They've made a park near our home where apparently he spent some time. It's called Boones Cave Park. We've never been before but we decided we would go with some friends on a little field trip. It's right on the Yadkin River, has some walking trails, an old cabin, and a cave. It's greatly used by large groups for cooking out, parties, et cetera. You can even do some Kayaking, for the river there is quite swift.
Do you remember all those old, great Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett movies growing up? You know, the ones they never show on TV anymore? Of course Disney does not fully portray his real life, but they were still much better than anything you find on TV these days.
Ahhh, doesn't that bring back some memories, kids???
Caleb's favorite part is where Daniel Boone throws the Tomahawk and splits the tree wide open.
We headed out on a few trails first.
We finally come to the infamous cave. Caleb and Laci were a little bit eery of this damp, dark place.
As a matter of fact, I don't think Laci even stepped inside.
So we headed on, over the hills and through the woods. And I mean there were some good hills to hike.
Then we came to Baptism Rock. We offered to dunk a few young ones in need of God's saving Grace, but they didn't seem real interested going head first into the red, muddy waters of the Yadkin River. But there was an awesome echo going on!
The Yadkin River ~
Then we hike on through the woods. It was muggy, hot, and we had to fight the cobwebs all the way through. We never made it to the cabin. We figured we would wait until fall when it was much more like hiking weather.
Do you think there are any bears in there???
And my little snaggletooth has another tooth ready to come out in the next week or two, probably. Tooth number 2.
