We've been studying what possibly could be my son's most favorite time in history, the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Kings, sword fighting, and jousting, what's not to like for a boy of modern times!
There's a world out that that needs saving, and he's gonna do it!
We've been to the Renaissance Festival, along with a few Classical friends of ours ... for a little field trip. We thought it would be fun to take our kids back in time.
I know you'll be quite jealous, but we even had lunch with Shakespeare. And got his autograph. It will make for a great presentation at CC next week :)
Shakespeare explained to us how one received an education in his day and age. One took Rhetoric, Latin, studied memorization.
Oh, my goodness, they had a classical education, just like us. Of course they didn't call it "classical" back then.
The 16th Century village sure made you feel like you just walked back in time. But was pizza big back then??? That was our lunch. It was either that or a big, fat turkey leg!
There was much to see and do. And learn!
My son thinks this is the coolest time in history ~
My daughter thinks it quite nifty ~
My husband? He thinks it's just a plain weird period in time. For instance, check out the guy in the tights!! What's up with that?
Turns out, back in the day a man's leg was a very important focal point in Renaissance fashion. Men took every opportunity to show off his physical attribute. They would often stand and present their leg forward, turning the foot outward so as to show off their calf. (You don't say). This practice was called "making a leg." O-k-a-y. The most important lesson you'll learn today.
The Renaissance Festival will be going on all month long. If you have a chance to attend, for educational purposes, student days are during the week and you will get a tremedous discount. The pubs are open on weekends only, so if you want a good ale, weekends are the time to go. (I'm sure things crank up a notch then.)
For now, God ye good den (God grant you a good day)!
