Laci and our friend Tori came home with first and second place in the youth fiddle contest.
My little guy, Caleb, decided he wanted to play his violin in the competition this year. He hasn't played in about a year as he's been working on the mandolin, but one day he just picked it up and started practicing. I couldn't believe that he remembered some of his old songs, but who could ever forget "Twinkle." This is BIG for him, getting up in front of all those people, as he tends to be the shy one in our family.
Laci and I dressed as two Eskimo cuties!
We decided to stay at a B&B this year. It was nice staying downtown and walking everywhere. The Inn at Brevard is a historic landmark, wall to wall antiques. I wasn't quite sure this was a good idea, with the kids and all, but I did threaten them "NO JUMPING ON THE ANTIQUE BEDS!" I suppose it was educational as well for it did contain paintings from the Renaissance era.
I would dare say my little cuties have never eaten at such a nice place setting either!
The food was great and the warm fireplace was even greater!
Greg and Carol ran in the 5K this year. Carol hasn not run in months so she wasn't sure she would even make it, but she did! Yay! Here she comes now ...
But the funniest part of our trip came after we actually got home. Greg had decided before we left that he would be frugal and wear his "Captain America" costume again this year (hoping no one would notice!!) in the race. Adult costumes are expensive, you know. When we got home he went online to find the "Flight of the Vampire 5K" website so he could see where he placed in the race. Now, Greg does not run for speed, he runs because he loves it, although some day he would love to train for a real racing experience. But it's always nice to know how you finished. He googled the race, and low and behold it pulled up the Asheville Newspaper (CLICK HERE and scroll halfway down the page). He pulled up the page on the "Flight of the Vampire" race and there was his picture. Don't you know he was shocked to see his picture there and find out that he had won the costume contest for the race, to which we did not even know they were having one! This is the first year they decided to judge the runners for their costumes. We have no idea what he won, but it sure was funny!
Out of 253 runners, Greg came in at 105 and Carol finished at 131. Not bad, guys! But the guy who came in first finished the 3 miles in 15 minutes flat. That's booking it, people!!
We had a good time, as usual. We could not have asked for better weather, 34 at night, 65 during the day! Love those cool fall days!
