It's a terrible picture, but when one is always in full motion, it's not so easy to capture those precious, and not so precious, moments!
The fall caused a little trauma to his front tooth. Not noticeable from the outset but the inside of it was black. It looked much like a bruise, if you will. His dentist has been watching it for years, always questioning how it's doing. It has never bothered him all these years...until this past weekend. Saturday morning he woke up and was in tears over his tooth hurting, and as time went on, his lip began to swell. I wasn't sure what was going on with it, but Monday morning I took him to the dentist to have them look at it. His dentist took one look at it, put the mirror under his lip and had me look at it. It was terribly swollen and the tooth more worn down looking. Actually, it was abscessed! And it looked much worse than the naked eye could see. I felt terrible for him. She was a little hesitant about giving him laughing gas without having had an antibiotic, but the tooth needed to come out. We were hoping it would be the first one to fall out on its own, but ...
They helped it along. And, well, no matter how it came out, Caleb is just estatic that his first tooth is finally out, no matter how it happened. That makes the second offbeat story of first tooth losses around here. (Remember Laci losing her first tooth in the swimming pool?)
I guess it was all meant to be. This tooth was much, much larger than Laci's tooth so I just wonder what a struggle it would have been for him to have pulled that sucker on his own.
Ahh, and now that the swelling has finally gone down, you can actually see that little empty spot!
Now, if we can just get him to slow down a little, maybe all the other teeth will come out naturally!
